Abstract

This study offers three probable scenarios of the evolution of social innovation in education in Europe, in the mid-term future. The proposed developments in assessment and in policymaking seek to stimulate a European level debate on the future of social innovation in education and present to Member States possible avenues for future policy development and forward-looking policy action. The study is the result of a trend impact and driver analysis, and a strategic foresight exercise. In order to provide a vision of the future of social innovation in education, major trends and drivers with relevance to social innovation and education were identified in a review of relevant academic and policy studies. These trends were assessed by an online Delphi survey involving around 200 educational stakeholders from different sectors and countries at national and EU level. Based on the outcome of their assessment, three scenarios and their corresponding implications for society, economy, and education systems have been developed and discussed.
