Abstract

In the field of education we find contradictory developments:

Considering continuous educational expansion and growing educational levels in society on the one hand side and considering the Emergence of educational poverty and social exclusion of people effected on the other hand side the research-question is whether in the long run and from a holistic perspective we can observe social progress or social regress in and by education?

The overall conclusion of all analyses to answer this research question does not reveal a story of unlimited educational success. Although we can observe social progress in some dimensions there is social regress in others. There is a long way to go to reach a fair and inclusive society and we have to be cautious not to loose direction.
