Abstract

This report analyses the recent trends in labour and total factor productivity in the EU and beyond (Section 2), then it identifies several factors that influence productivity, based on a literature survey and a cross-country empirical analysis (Section 3). Section 4 investigates the role of intangible investment and digitalization, while Section 5 looks at the relationship between competition, market power, and productivity. All these elements lead us to formulate some policy recommendations for the revival of productivity growth in the concluding Section.
