abstract: value analysis/value engineering (va/ve) according to oenorm a 6750 and din 69910 is a heuristic method, by which the usefulness and thereby the value of the analysed object is augmented by decreasing cost and/or increasing the degree to which functions are fulfilled. va/ve is also applicable in small and medium sized enterprises and has been used in austria for about 20 years. the aims of this empirical research are to document the state of va/ve-application in austria for the first time in a comprehensive way and to justify the necessity for considering the 3-m success-factors (method, man and management) to use va/ve successfully.;
