Reproduktionstechnologiepolitik in Österreich: Die Genese des Fortpflanzungsmedizingesetzes 1992 und die Rolle von ExpertInnen

Abstract: This paper analyses the emergence and development of assisted reproductive technology policy in Austria. In particular it focuses on the political processes between the beginning of the 1980ies and the early 1990ies, which culminated in the adoption of the Reproductive Medicine Act (Fortpflanzungsmedizingesetz - FMedG) in 1992. Besides a description of the law, the key actors, their policy ideas and advocacy positions and the arenas of the policymaking process are identified. Furthermore, a detailed account of the main phases and milestones of the policy-process is given. The paper finally explores the role of experts in the formation of Austrian assisted reproductive technology policy.;
