Abstract
Abstract: Due to the current shortage of sufficient places for apprenticeship training in Austria, apprenticeship is discussed in public. The creation of new training occupations which meet the enterprises' new requirements and the costs of apprenticeship are the main issues. This paper summarizes the main results of the study 'Die betrieblichen Kosten der Lehrlingsausbildung' (Companies' Costs of Apprenticeship Training) and the workshop on the same topic held on April 7, 1997. Especially the results of the study concerning the costs, returns and net costs are given in three distinct concepts of estimation. These estimated costs are then compared with the results from previously released studies in Austria and Germany. In addition, measurement problems of costs and returns, the importance of such cost studies for economic and companies' decisions and the dual vocational training as a part of the whole education system will be discussed.;
