Abstract

What are the transition patterns into Higher Eduction? Flexible transitions to Higher Eduction are an exception rather than the usual way of entering Higher Eduction in most EUROSTUDENT VII countries. On average, 16 % of students enter Higher Eduction in a delayed manner, i.e. more than two years after leaving secondary school. An even smaller share of students (8 %) enters Higher Eduction using alternative access routes, i.e. without the standard upper secondary entry qualification obtained when leaving the regular school system for the first time, or having obtained it later in life (e.g. via evening classes or adult learning).
