Abstract

The entrepreneurial ecosystem at universities in Austria follows a model, where the advice on intellectual property and on establishing a new company (startup) is done by different players, realised also in different organisations. It is evident that Austrian universities are ambitious to enforce entrepreneurship by the way of awareness and education, while the process of starting a company is accompanied by institutionalised incubators, mainly by the AplusB-Centres. To develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem at universities in Austria further it might be essential to strengthen the technology transfer at those universities which provide critical mass. This brings the value added chain nearer to the university, enabling benefits from further synergies and improving the knowledge and technology transfer. In comparison with international good practices there is still a demand for catching up. However, policy makers must be aware that the building up of an entrepreneurial ecosystem takes time and needs additional financial means (including also flexible money).
