Abstract

The paper documents the analytical design and the main empirical results of estimating a small macro model for the austrian economy, which conceptually allows for rationing equilibria to occur in the labour market. the model rama (rationing model austria) permits to quantify the proportion of markets in a keynesian regime, a classical regime or a regime of repressed inflation in austria 1966-1988. one main finding of the analysis is that insufficient demand had been the main constraint on employment growth since the mid-seventies; from 1984 to 1988, however, the proportion of firms in a classical regime steadily increased. the properties of the model are further explored in a few simulation studies.;
