Abstract

abstract: gender discrimination in job advertisement in newspapers exists when sex of the applicant is specified. the main question is if gender neutrality in job advertisement means equal possibilities of access for man and woman. in the first partof this paper it is investigated to what extent formal sex discrimination in post advertisement has changed since 1968. for that purpose the job market in the newspapers 'kurier' (vienna) and 'sueddeutsche zeitung' (munich) is interpreted. the conditions for sex being a selection device are tested in an experiment. fictitious applications - one for a man one for a woman - were sent to firms which offered a job.;
