Abstract
abstract: this research memorandum consists of three papers concerning the problem of psychiatric care with special reference to the austrian situation. in the first part a career-model is introduced, which allows the integration of somatic, psychic, and social aspects in the genesis, distribution and treatment of psychiatric disorders. in the second part the gap between needs for help and the supply of services is examined. a description of the status quo and of the historical changes is basedboth upon austrian materials and essential empirical investigations in other countries. in the third part a systematic outline of the international discussion on the principles of modern psychiatric care is given. considering these principles, the analysis of part two and a critique of austrian reform-approaches an alternative reform-model is developed.;
